NAA hosts nearly 1,000 teams and awards $61K in cash and prizes over the weekend…

Including the #10 warm-up roping, the Super 9 on Saturday in Casa Grande, Ariz., on Jan. 8 drew 600 teams and paid out nearly $30,000 in cash and prizes! The awards included trophy saddles not only for the #9 average winners but also for the #7 Incentive champs and the #8 Incentive champs.

The roping was only advertised to pay five places, but Yost Events added back more than $9,000 in cash and prizes all the way down to 17th place in the average. The loot included six saddles, 16 jackets and 26 breast collars to ropers placing in that event.

The next day in Wickenburg, the all-girl roping drew 24 teams and paid $740, while 300 teams played in the Century and #9 ropings. What a weekend for Dave Hess, who attended both National All Amateur events over the weekend. He earned $1,100 plus prizes in Casa Grande and then took top honors in the #9 in Wickenburg to earn a saddle and another $950 -- all for fees of no more than $50 a run.
